Come Racing Tomorrow

It is a scintillating field for the 1200m Gold Cup Sprint (Gr3) at Borrowdale Park tomorrow afternoon with four of the six runners distance suited and the others too good to be dismissed.

All of Brianna, Jet Mirage, Abayyaan, and Jubilee, are looking good, in theory, but finding the winner requires some thought.

On the 5th of November, the 1200m Borrowdale Sprint was won by Jet Mirage (58.50 kgs), then came Jubilee (56.50), and Brianna (60.5) was third. Winning margins were 0.50 and 1.50 lengths. And this is where you start worrying about the turnaround in weights tomorrow, Saturday. 

Then think about Abayyaan who won a 1200m Borrowdale Sprint on the 14th of October, carrying 60 kgs, and beating Jubilee (60.50) by a length. And we must not forget Only Him and Wantage.

Only Him, sporting new colours, ran over 1600m at the last meeting and Wes Marwing rides again. However, he was second to Jet Mirage (54 kgs) in an 1100m MR 98 Handicap on the 29th of July, when carrying 60 kgs. The winning margin was 3 lengths, and that day Brianna (59.0) was a length behind him.

And finally, remember Wantage won his first start in 2019 over 1200m, beating Lily Blue! That said, this 10-time winner certainly prefers further but you never know. Class counts. On the 18th of November, he was fighting it out with Holy Land in an MR 98 Handicap over 1600m. Holy Land won by a quarter of a length, conceding 2 kgs.

So far this has been all about weight but there is also the draw. Tomorrow Jet Mirage is drawn on the outside with Abayyaan next to him. Will that give them an edge?

The scene is set for some good racing. The Gold Cup Sprint is at 15:40 and the previous race, a 2700m Pinnacle Plate, is also a bit of a mind-bender.
