Debra In Fine Form

Var Aglow (Nhlapo)

Leading trainer at Borrowdale Park, Debra Swanson, won the first race on Sunday, the 8th of March 2026, with Coccolina, and later scored with Sally Port, Ultimate Jewel and Var Aglow.

Coccolina, a four-year-old Querari (GER) filly won the 1260m Tace Maiden Plate, easily, with Norbert Takawira riding. She is owned by Mrs S L Thomas and bred at Klawervlei Stud.

Jeffery Syster steered Sally Port home in the 1800m First Mutual MR 70 Handicap for Mr DJ and Mrs MC Daniels. The three-year-old is by Act Of War, and bred by Varsfontein Stud. This was her second win.

Then came Ultimate Jewel (Syster), by Rabada, for the Don’t Horse Around Syndicate. This was the 1200m Allied Insurance MR 80 Handicap and the six-year-old gelding, bred by Summerhill Stud (Pty) Ltd, has now won seven times.

The Zimfun Racing Club’s Var Aglow, with Louis Nhlapo aboard, took the 1200m PG Industries Pinnacle Plate in a close finish with Jet Mirage and Action Zone. Bred by Mrs Vanessa Harrison, the 9-year-old Var (USA) gelding will probably now retire gracefully, having won 10 races.

Congratulations to all the winning connections.
