THE ZIMBABWE OAKS MIGHT BE INTERESTING

There are nine acceptors for the 2000m Zimbabwe Oaks, and it is hard to look beyond the Bridget Stidolph trained Duffi’s Call. Hopefully Gokhan Terzi’s bunch (which includes Ladies First and Betula Uber) will be able to make a race of it.

It is interesting to note that Andrew Fortune will ride Belle Epoque for Terzi. This lightly raced Seventh Rock (AUS) filly, a winner on April 24 over 1200m, has yet to race around the turn, but JP van der Merwe, in the irons that day, is down to ride Myths And Legends, for the yard.

By Argonaut out of a Fort Wood (USA) mare, Myths And Legends also won her last start over 1800m, beating subsequent winner Standpoint. Van Der Merwe was on Myths And Legends.

First race at Borrowdale Park on Sunday is due off at 12 15 and the Zimbabwe Oaks will be run at 15 10.

Photograph by Gavin Macleod shows Belle Epoque, with Juan Paul van der Merwe up. The filly was bred by Rumbavu Park Stud and Christopher and Noeleen Peech did the honours.
