Flashback to the 2016 Champion Fillies Stakes won by La Carmelita.
Last year the 1800m Champion Fillies Stakes was won by La Carmelita, followed by Ladies First, Betula Uber, Belle Epoque, Dictate and Carla The Rebel.
To be honest it wasn’t much of a race as La Carmelita won by 7.75 lengths.
However, on Sunday at Borrowdale Park, Belle Epoque, Ladies First and Carla The Rebel will pick up this particular gauntlet again – and now have Wylde Style, Burning Rock, Crystalline, Placid Sea and Simona to contend with. An interesting field.
Wylde Style carries top weight (60 kgs) and will be giving Belle Epoque 4 kgs, and the rest 6kgs. Quite a tall ask over 1800m.
It has been raining in Harare this week with probably more to come. At 15.40 on Thursday the Mashonaland Turf Club advised that 19mm had fallen, so far, during this week. The course can take more.
Jay Kay Two has been scratched from the third race on a veterinary certificate. That is the only card change to date.
The first race on Sunday is due off at 12. 20.
