WELL DONE WANTAGE

What a pity Gael and Dennis Evans were unable to be at Borrowdale Park on Sunday to see their home bred colt, Wantage, carry 60 kgs and win the 1600m Guineas Trial by three lengths.

The son of Ato out of the Tamburlaine (IRE) mare, Angora, is owned by Newbury Racing (Pty) Ltd and has now won three and placed six times from 10 starts.

Trained by Bridget Stidolph, Wantage was ridden by Mathew Thackeray. Tree Of Wisdom, Lil Miss Gee and Donegal Glen filled the minor places.

Congratulations to the winning connections.

  1. – – – – – – – – and it was so sad that YOU were not there either! The Nameless New Bar is really nice, and will be even better for the next race meeting. There were lots of new and old

race-goers there – the important ones were at the previous race meeting too, and they are involved with the American Embassy. John Smith has given them an idea/ lecture about owning a couple of horses. When they said they are restricted to the assets they are allowed, John asked if they had a dog. “Yes”, they answered, “ well if you have a dog, I am sure another animal will be OK” !! Kirsty gave them a tour of the new place, and the one girl rides with one of the people who have horses in Lisa’s old yard – i.e. past us. So hold thumbs!!

We missed you at Dewi’s memorial too. It brought back many happy memories through messages that were read out by Murray and Lesley. The tear jerking bit for me was at the end when three horses cantered past the finishing post carrying the colours that had been worn by Dewi.

Mathew gave such a good report on Wantage’s win – he is such a nice little (sadly) horse – a cheeky bugger !!

    See you soon (I hope)

    R.
