ALMOST A CLEAN SWEEP

Derby Day was very much Ladies’ Day at Borrowdale Park this Sunday. Well done Penny Fisher and Bridget Stidolph for saddling three winners each.

Former Borrowdale Park trainer, Sharon Patterson, wrote: “Keep up the good work, Ladies! You are following in the tradition of Mrs Ella Lockie, Dorothy Rutherford, Dubbles Draper, myself, Noelene Peech and Lisa Harris!”

Ryan Munger was riding high when he rode Lady Carina, Racey J and Muhannad for the Fisher stable – and not to be completely outdone Brendon McNaughton rode two winners for the Stidolph yard, namely Duffi’s Call and the 2016 Zimbabwe Derby winner, Mathematician. Kevin Derere steered the unfancied Romantic Balladeer to victory for Stidolph in the last race, no doubt costing quite a few Exotic bets.

Gokhan Terzi won the second race, a 1200m Maiden Plate (F and M) with Belle Epoque (J.P. van der Merwe) making sure the girls didn’t have it all their own way.

The photograph below, taken by Gavin Macleod, shows Duffi’s Call coming home lonely when winning the 1800m Merit Rated 80 Handicap over 1800m. Looks like she is following in her sister, Print The Pounds’, footsteps.
