First two horses home in the US$ 50 000 Republic Cup run at Borrowdale Park on Saturday were saddled by Bridget Stidolph, while Eurakilon and Whiteline Fever filled the other places.
Morgen Nyamagwete picked up a last minute ride on the winner, Mathematician, when carded jockey Keagan de Melo was kicked on the knee on the way to the start. Locally based Nyamagwete made the most of his lucky break timing his ride to perfection.
At the 400m mark it seemed Duffi’s Call had the race in the bag, then Mathematician breezed past, winning margin two lengths.
Mathematician, by Black Minnaloushe (USA) out of an Elliodor (FR) mare, was bred by Adv. J.P. Joubert, and is owned by Newbury Racing (Pty) Ltd (nominee Mr D.E. Evans).
Congratulation to all the winning connections.
