The last race at Borrowdale Park on Sunday, a 1300m MR 80 Handicap, was run in honour of the late Bill Wakefield of Borrowdale Stud. Prizes were donated and presented to the winning connections by his widow, Patricia Wakefield, seen here with one of the winning owners, John Koumides.
This race provided one of the best finishes of the day with Gotago finishing 0.10 lengths ahead of Porterhouse, followed by Newton Power (0.35) and The Mutineer (1.35).
The seven-year-old Kitalpha (USA) gelding is trained by Kirk Swanson and this was a chance ride for Brendon McNaughton who stood in for Norbert Takawira who fell with Stirling Road earlier in the afternoon. Gotago is owned by Heinrich and Amanda von Pezold, C. John Smith and John Koumides, and was bred by the Von Pezolds.
