FOLLOW THE BLOOD

There are seven competitive races at Borrowdale Park on Sunday, with the main race, the Bloodstock South Africa 2000 no exception.

All eight runners have some claim to fame with regard to pedigree, if not form. Most have not raced beyond 1600m, although Finlay and Magnificent Mile finished second and third respectively behind Setswana over 1900m on January 31 – which is encouraging.

Finlay is by Go Deputy (US) out of a Western Winter (USA) mare, while Magnificent Mile (below), the son of Ashaawes (USA) out of a Nissr (USA) mare should handle the 2000m trip with ease.

This will be an interesting race and I haven’t given up on Call Me Earl completely, despite a disappointing run in the Zimbabwe Guineas. That 1600m event was won by Pacifica, with Sunday’s runner, Super Good, second.
